What is an Apple head Chihuahua?

What this means is the shape of the dogs head.

An apple head An Chihuahua is exactly what it sounds like, an apple.

The shape resembles an apple, in that it has a distinct dome “roundness” that is similar to an apple.

 Deer head Chihuahuas have a more slender shape and a longer nose.

Look carefully, you will see that this shape resembles a deers head, thus the name, “deer Chihuahua”.

The famous Taco Bell dog is an example of a deer Chihuahua and was a female that weight 8 lbs.

Coat length

Chihuahuas come in two hair varieties: a long-haired and a short-hair or smooth coat. The long-haired is rarer than the smooth coat. The long-haired Chihuahua has fringed ears, as well as a long haired tail, legs and frill under its neck and under body. Down its back can have long hair but may not.

What about the color?

This is just a matter of personal preference. But remember the most important thing is your relationship with your Chi, not the color.

Irish Marking 

A solid-colored chihuahua with with white markings on the legs, chest, tail tip, and a blaze on the face and a ring around the neck.

 Brindle

These have stripes similar to a tiger. Different shades and colors can form the stripes.

Parti-colors

Marked by irregular patches of color on a white background. These patches of color should be well defined. The spots themselves can be brindled as well.

Sable

Sable chihuahuas have black-tipped hairs or black hairs on a background of silver, cream or tan.

Saddle

A large patch of a darker color across the back of the dog more or less in the form of the saddle. This can also be in the form of a stripe.

Merle

  This is defined as a speckled coat, sometime this is in combined with a change in eye color. The dog may or may not have blue eyes, or one blue or lighter colored eye.
